    God I hope so!
Music man, the U.S. is going bankrupt… where have you been?
Boe, you are a liar. I just got back from there and their system works remarkably well.

To some answerers: You are so afraid of paying higher taxes! This is ridiculous! You will be much better off having universal health care and the amount of tax you will pay extra will be same or less than what you are paying for your health insurance less headache of dealing with greedy insurance companies.
Just imagine if you got sick and you don’t have to think wheter you can afford going to the doctor or not. And when you bring your sick kid to the emergency room you will not be asked devastating questions like if you have insurance and how are you going to pay, you will get immediate care.

Free health care sounds great, but the countries with it have high taxes. I have a friend who lives in Sweden and her taxes are almost 50%. I would rather pay my premiums, than more taxes. The people who mostly complain about health care are people who lacked education and have crappy jobs and want others to pay their way. The problem is a small number of uninsured people, usually with mental illness issues, overuse the system for non medical emergencies (see referenced articles). 9 people accounted for 2700 visits, in just one city over the course of a couple of years. These individuals were uninsured, of course, and the cost is passed on to other patients. Why should I pay for health services when I don’t use them?
The free market, when regulated properly, works amazingly well, just look at rent control (the over regulation of the market) and the current housing and mortgage crisis (the under regulation). Supply and demand aren’t called laws for nothing. We don’t mess with gravity, yet, supply and demand work exactly the same way and everyone tries to screw with them. Doctors are people and they make mistakes, but not every mistake should end up as a lawsuit. These lawsuits drive up the cost of doing business, as insurance premiums for doctors are passed along to patients.

Yes, without a doubt. Eventually Americans will get the universal health care they deserve.
Leaving health care to the “free market” is as absurd as privatizing the police force or fire fighting. Americans pay more per capita than anyone in the world but recieve less care. The money gets lost in the for profit logichttp://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?c…

Dig deeper into how ‘well’ it works there. Most people have to be rationed for needed health care. You have to wait for needed care. Including if you are dying from cancer. They will determine if it is ‘worth” spending Government money on you when you may not recover.

You probably will not like my answer, but I certainly hope it will not happen. If you think there is a nursing shortage now, wait until they start getting less pay for an already underpaid profession. Many people think their own jobs are underpaid, but how often do they make life and death decisions? Do you know any Canadien’s? Ask them, it is not done “extremely well”. The wait is horrendous for health care procedures. As the U.S. system stands now, a person cannot be turned away from emergency care, so the government pays. With the medicaid systems, the government also pays. Too many times the ER is used as a clinic, hence the Yahoo! story: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090401/ap_o…
What has to be done it stopping the abuse, not creating another problem.

Canada and the UK are going bankrupt — welcome to reality…they have two choices:
    1. Raise taxes
    2. Reduce User Benefit
Canada just pumped in a giant stimulus to keep their hospitals open…
The UK rationing body just decided that women w/ mid-term breast cancer aren’t allowed access to the system anymore (they’re as good as dead — at least that’s the rationale).

What you are saying is hard working people pay even more than they do already for others healthcare, Hell NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am tired of paying for others to have a free ride. I work my *** off to have everything I have. Why is this my responsiblity? This will never happen.

those countries also pay an enormous amount in taxes…
–thats not really the american dream. living free of government interference and mandates is what america is all about.

Exactly – look at the UK and Canada and ask them how it is working out.
You will not get any good responses.

I don’t want to be told I’m too old for services that I need. Leave universal health care in other countries and leave us alone.

    Totally free?
There is nothing FREE ever. Someone will have to pay for it somehow.
