    What utter rubbish.
Firstly the ques shown for NHS Dentists aren’t because there are too few dentists but because NHS Dentists have cheaper prices than the private sector. The vast majority of dental practices in the UK are private and similar to American Dental Practices, whilst the only people who can claim free NHS Dental Care at Under 18′s, Students, Welfare recipients and the Elderly. The fact pewople are queing in fact shows how popular NHS Dentists are when compared to there far more expensive private rivals, and most peoplke would like to see more of such dentists rather than private sector dentists, which destroys the very point the American right wing try to make by showing such pictures.http://www.whatprice.co.uk/dentist/nhs-p…
In terms of medical innovation British Scientists have been at the forefront and we have a Universal Health Care System.
    Including -
Sir Peter Mansfield – Noble Prize for his role in developing Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Mansf…
Sir Godfrey Newbold Hounsfield who was awarded a Nobel Prize for his part in the development of X-ray computed tomography (CT). His name is immortalised in the Hounsfield scale, a quantitative measure of radiodensity used in evaluating CT scans.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godfrey_Hou…
Whilst Penicillin was both discovered in Britain by Sir Alexander Fleming and developed in to a Treatment by Howard Florey and his Team and the Dunn Laboratory at Cambridge University.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penicillin
Crick and Watson made their discovery of DNA at Cambridge University in 1953.http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/2804…
The first mammal ever to be cloned was Dolly the Sheep at the Roslin Institute in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1997.http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates…
London’s Royal Marsden Hospital and its academic partner, The Institute of Cancer Research have discovered or developed more new anti-cancer drugs than the National Cancer Institute in the USA.http://www.royalmarsden.nhs.uk/RMH/priva…
Harpal Kumar, chief executive of Cancer Research UK, said: “Years of research are behind the dramatic progress being made in the fight against Britain’s common cancers. Survival rates have doubled in the last thirty years and the work of Cancer Research UK has been at the heart of that progress.
“Our research is behind 19 of the top 20 drugs used to treat cancer patients worldwide today. Our work has underpinned the huge progress we are now seeing in preventing more deaths from lung cancer. And our progress over decades has helped to develop radiotherapy as a major form of treatment for half of all cancer patients.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/health…
Whilst just the other day it was announced that researchers at Imperial College London had managed to halt the growth of cancerous tumours, in what could be an important step towards the eventual eradication of this terrible illness.http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/articl…
Finally it should be noted that Britain has a thriving Pharma and Bio-Techs Industry, with British Companies such as Glaxo Smith Kline (GSK) and Astra Zeneca being amongst the top pharmaceutical companies in the world, whilst Pfizer and other such companies have major research facilities in the UK.http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/Healthcare/Medic…

Why would it? And we are not looking at government health care. We are considering a government payment option for health care, big difference. Why would a public plan slow down medical research? Medical equipment makers would not be effected in doing research. Pharmaceutical companies would not be effected in doing research. Many medical innovations come from research doctors, not your basic primary care physicians. So how would a public option stop research doctors? It wouldn’t. The only people being effected at all with a public option would be the insurance companies and they do not do medical research.

Yes, because 2 of the 3 committee members, Ezekiel Emanuel and Dr. Blumenthal basically have stated that we should ration health care.
Dr. Blumenthal…”Recommends slowing medial innovation to control health care spending.” New England Journal of Medicine 3/8/01.
Emanuel believes that “communitarian-ism should guide decisions on who gets care. He says medical care should be RESERVED for the Non-Disabled not given to those show are irreversibly prevented from being or becoming participation citizens.” Hastings Center Report 111/96

Probably not. It hasn’t stopped in countries with 100% universal health care so it’s hard to think that it would stop here as well. Believe it or not, there are some people motivated by kindness instead of cash. I do think it could slow down. Seeing as money doesn’t make you immune to disease, I don’t see people stopping research. Even the greediest of people want to find a way to cure their diabetes, cancer, etc.

Of course they will. So will altruism. There is no incentive to do anything because everyone expects the government to take care of everything. We want the pharmaceuticals to make money so they will keep looking for drugs and cures to help us live longer and happier lives.

Well, I am apparently not as gullible as you appear to be since medical innovations come from all over the world and 99% of those governments systems are socialist in nature.
I hope this reality can explain it better.

If it’s not profitable, why waste the money on silly things like “research” that might end up saving lives.

There are some things the government needs to stay out of and that’s the business of insurance.
