A lot of people don’t think that health care shouldn’t be given to everyone because if you can’t pay for it, too bad! Some people also claim that America was founded on Christian values, so if that’s the case, yes it would be immoral to not help the ‘needy’ if America is really founded on Christian values. And then if someone can afford health care, the premiums just get more and more expensive because the people that can’t afford it….HAVE to be taken care of somehow…and so WE the insured…foot the bill anyway. Go figure!!!!!
    To Killer Queen above;
Just a question, my brother who has had diabetes since childhood, what would he do? He works for a small company that doesn’t offer insurance, and even if they did offer it, he can’t get it because of his disease (he has type A diabetes). So a healthy lifestyle, yes for some, it would work, but not everyone. FYI, his wife has insurance w/ her company, but if he were to purchase his own, it’s about $500 a month…and can a family of four afford that…along w/ a mortgage.bills….etc.?????

When those 47 million go to free health care and have to wait for a much needed MRI, then what? The waiting list will be long for those who need emergent care immediately while another person with the common cold will back up the system. It is a process that I do not think DHHS will be able to handle. I do not want to be waiting for a specialty service like a MRI to hinder my continuity of care. If it comes to that I would much rather have a segregated health care system. Those who are willing to pay for insurance and those who wish to wait.

It is not immoral or unpatriotic. There are 350 million Americans in this country and the last time I looked at our system of government, the majority should have the say in what happens in this country. The majority of the country can afford health care. The people who cannot are the minority (look at the numbers) so they should work harder to be able to afford it. Not fair? Well welcome to real life. Life aint fair. If it was I would be out working instead of having to go to my physical therapy 3 times a week to try to improve a condition I have which keeps me from working.

If you come up with an answer to that, let me know. We have a medicaid program that has billions in fraud, If your health is bad enough you cannot work, there is Social Security insurance, but the weird thing is you have to wait a year to recieve the medicare card, that I question. We have just spent trillions on giving bailouts to banks and mortgage companies, so where would this money come from to supplement insurance? We already owe 36,000 per person in the US, now they are talking about nationalizing banks, do you really want the Government doing that to medicine? I wish I had an answer to your question, I have a wife with Lupus and I am disabled, we worked all our lives and my wife cannot get on medicare for a year, so out of the 2,000 dollars a month we draw together, we have to pay 875.00 a month for Cobra insurance plus co pays and medicine. I think if you are deemed incapable of work and put on Social Security insurance you should be placed on medicare at the same time. My story is just the tip of the iceberg.

Who said anything about “keeping it the same” ?
I just happen to think it would be immoral for the system — which has been corrupted and broken by bureaucracy, litigation and government interference — to be handed over completely to those same bureaucrats, litigators and government.
That’s why I have been fighting to reform the system…not to abdicate it to the same government who still can’t get the address right on my driver’s license after three tries …
How ’bout we give tax breaks for doctors who remain in private practice in urban areas (note I said “doctors” and not “Medical Corporations”)
How ’bout we offer government-backed medical scholarships to low-income students in return for four-years of service in a private practice (note I said “practice” and not “clinic”) set up in a low-income area…be it urban or rural?
How ’bout we create National Malpractice insurance the same way there’s government-backed Earthquake and Flood insurance? Maybe when it’s the government pocketbook that’s being sued haphazardly, they’ll finally take a hard look at their lawyer buddies.
See, these are all “government” programs that I would support that don’t involve state-controlled medicine … And I just thought these up over a cup of coffee and a bagel. Imagine what really smart people can think up if they just put petty politics aside…

Obama’s national healthcare involves electronic monitoring of your medical records. Medical decisions will be made by some bureaucrat in Washington, not your doctor. If the bureaucrat determines that an operation is too costly and your chances of survival are under 50% the plug may be pulled. Under the socialist healthcare, one can expect to wait months to see your primary doctor. Waiting lines are very long.

If we all made lifestyle changes, we wouldn’t have a healthcare crisis. And if people got an education and got good jobs with benefits, they wouldn’t have to worry. We can’t force companies who have low profits and small numbers of employees to pay just because people want it.
I have never taken a job without health benefits. That should be a high priority. Smokers use up 42% of a company’s benefits. Which is why I don’t hire smokers.

While I agree that something has to change, the problem isn’t that it wasn’t at one time affordable..but that as long as people sue and win frivolous lawsuits with outrageous settlements, the cost WILL GO UP. And they can’t EAT the loss, so it’s passed on to you. A whole lot would change if we wiped some of the precedents off the book. You would see immediate results. When doctors can practice without the fear of being sued for results that vary–not injure–quality and affordability ensue.

People are dying because they can’t afford the best medical care on the planet.
How is that new? How are you going to solve it by stealing money from people’s paychecks and offering them piss poor medical care and generic medicine? How would that be moral?

  10. towwwdot said on Monday, September 14, 2009, 8:26

It is more immoral to implement a negligent, biased, and/or corrupt system that compromises the quality of care and life saving treatment.
Americans do not trade potential risks in the light of false positivity.

Socialized medicine is killing more people in Canada and Europe than our private citizens. When illegal aliens can get health care here anyone can. By the way, I’ve had three heart attacks. If i had been in Canada or Europe I WOULD BE DEAD…

  12. E=MC2 said on Monday, September 14, 2009, 15:03

Nationalized Health care is not the answer. There need to be a cap on the costs. We have great medical coverage here but its expensive. The government can give tax breaks to people for their health care but should not run the system.

They tried giving everyone everything they might ever possibly need. It was called Communism. After slaughtering over 100 million people it finally sunk in that it didn’t work.

47 million Americans can’t afford lots of things.
If they want them then they need to work harder and find more opportunities.
If not then don’t expect everyone else to provide them.

  16. 60 min man said on Tuesday, September 15, 2009, 11:11

your 47 million number includes some 12-20 million illegals. california spend 5 billion alone dealing with illegals. maybe healthcare would be a little cheaper if people paid their bills and most illegals do not.

  17. consrgre said on Tuesday, September 15, 2009, 11:53

It is not…it is more immoral and Unpatriotic to FORCE millions more to PAY for the ones unwilling to work and afford it….

  18. Agent Smith said on Tuesday, September 15, 2009, 14:55

Did this happen on Obama’s watch???
    Who is not covered???
Other than millions of illegals???? And even they must get free emergency care.
    So National Socialism is better????
    No Thanks.

So are the successful sociopaths who so easily rise to the executive level; or the scrooges who tell doctors what procedures they should and should not preform, both in hospitals and in HMO’s

  20. dnafairy said on Tuesday, September 15, 2009, 20:22

Well all these dying people aren’t “poor” since we already have socialized medicine for the “poor” called medicaid. So are they rich? Middle class? Who is dying?

  21. gcbtradi said on Wednesday, September 16, 2009, 2:27

Hmmm and food… Isn’t it wrong that groceries are only for those who can pay?
Why do only those with money get stuff?
How about we turn it around… the more money you have… the less you get… that’s motivation

  22. Link said on Wednesday, September 16, 2009, 4:41

Because people who support the current healthcare system always put Country First.
