You will need to take out travel insurance that will cover you for the States for at least the period you are going for. You will get your policy details and a business card of some sort with your name, policy number and medical contact details of the insurer. Make sure you carry this business card. This way if you do accidentally get hit by a bus, the hospital can contact your insurer directly on your behalf. I tend to use Worldwide Insure as my travel insurer.
