“Proponents of government competition in a “national health insurance exchange” claim that it would enhance personal choice and health plan competition. That is highly unlikely. Rather, such a system would impose federal control over virtually every aspect of private health insurance, rendering it virtually indistinguishable from government insurance except for its direct financing. Congress would become increasingly prescriptive over benefits, the adoption of medical technology and new medical procedures, the pricing of these items, and the mechanism that plans may or may not use to manage health care risks. In other words, hardly any aspect of private health plans’ business operations would be free from government regulation and control. That is not a prescription for health care choice or competition.”

It will not work
I investigated Medicaid & Medicare Fraud in NYC and Long Island for 28 years.
Well over one thousand times; I visted Medicaid or Medicare Clinics and/or NYC Hospitals, Pharmacies, etc. ” posing ” as a Medicare or Medicaid Receipient.
The Providers ( Doctors, Dentists, etc. ) steal millions of Dollars from the government and the Recipients also steal from the system in that they allow the Providers to Bill the Government for Medical Services that they never receive in exchange for pills and/or money from the Provider.
I once saw a Medicaid Recipient with 21 different Medicaid Cards under 21 different names with 21 different Client ID Numbers ALL with her photo on them
I made undercover visits to a Psychiatrist who gave his patients a 3 minute visit ( including me ) + a bag of pills and the Psychiatrist billed the Government for 27 Hourly Therapy Sessions every day and….you guessed it…the Government paid for 27 Hours in each day.
I arrested a Dentist whose Office was open from 10 am – 12 Noon every day. This Dentist had gypsy cabs drive 40 junkie recipients ( from Harlem & the Bronx ) to his Office. The Dentist would then x-ray every junkie’s mouth & pay each one ten dollars. The Dentist then billed the Government for the same $ 350. worth of ficticious Dental Work on each Patient. This went on for 18 months & the Dentist was paying the junkies a total of $ 400 per day & was receiving a check amounting to $ 13,500 per day from the Government for 2 hours of billing for services not rendered.
As far as the quality of care goes….I recall one Dentist’s Office where a new hygenist remarked ” Doctor….you are not sterilizing the instruments that you use in the patient’s mouths ” & the female Dentist replied ” What do you care….they are all junkies with AIDS & they are going to die anyway ”
So much for Government Health Care

People talk about a right to healthcare, as if something that must be provided by the labor of others is a right. It’s wrong to force people to labor for others, and its wrong to monopolize the provision of healthcare so that none may choose.
The right to healthcare is the right to pay for your own care and to select how that care is provided.
In answer to your question, it’s a boneheaded idea.

UHC (Universal) and GSHC (government-subsidized) are very different. For one, the government health care system wouldn’t exist in GSHC. Companies like Kaiser Permanente and United would still exist, while Pfizer and GSK would still research pills quickly and efficiently. The main difference is that the government subsidizes the CLIENT’S bill if they are below a certain threshold, not the company’s.

Other than the military, has the government ever done ANYTHING well? My answer to that is NO. Therefore my thoughts on government control of health care is BAD IDEA. Want some close exapmples? VA is not a choice of free will but a choice of need. Social Secuity, it’s close to bankrupt and those paying in now will never see a dime of return (Ponzie scheme) Medicare. more of a government snafu. Board of Education=dumbing down of America.
Anthony. you should have figured all that out long before getting a nail in your throat! It’s called planning for contingencies.
Buttface, they already are. Been to an emergency room lately?

My opinion is:
1) There is no free health care (FOR ALL) now..except illegals are DEMANDING IT. demanding,.
2) The Government care will cost all of the working people.
3) Government care will be substandard.
4) if you want great care, you will have to spend more out of pocket.
look at England or Canada.
Lots of horror stories.
I say we need to STOP the incentives for illegals.
1) We immediately do not give citizens to babies born in the US. If the mother is not a citizen neither is the baby.
2) We give only minimal emergency care to illegals. PERIOD. No emergency no care. No rights to illegals
There is an awful lawsuit where an illegal spent a couple of YEARS in a Florida hospital, costing millions of dollars..we sent him back (paying for flight) and a stupid US judge ruled that we must bring this illegal back to the US and care for him.
A normal hospital sty is three days not years.

It won’t work. nothing is free, higher taxes will pay for it so what you are saving in health care will be eaten up in taxes. I don’t know why people don’t see this. Plus, if everyone, including millions of Illegals, are given free care, then how long do you think you will have to wait til get your broken leg or sinusitis looked at? You think it takes forever to see a doctor now, wait til we go to Federal health care. lol

Our Government bungles everything it gets its’ hands on, this would include any sort of Government runned Health Care. Look at all the Governmental fraud, waste, deceit as it stands now. I don’t want our Government running my life, and if you love your freedoms as much as I do, you shouldn’t either. There HAS TO BE A BETTER WAY than for our Government to end up running this burocracy.

A good idea.
Look at the healthcare system in the USA. Despite spending more money on healthcare PER PERSON than any other country in the world, the USA has one of the industrialised worlds highest death rates for kids aged under five.
If you like the death rates for American kids, keep the government out of healthcare.

CALGARY — Several city walk-in medical centres are drastically cutting back hours or sporadically closing because they can’t find enough doctors to staff the clinics (http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/news/…
The critical shortage of doctors in Shelburne is placing a strain on the busy Emergency department at HHCC, which handles patients from Caledon as well as Dufferin. And this is at a time when the hospital is striving to reduce its wait times. (http://www.citizen.on.ca/news/2008/0724/…
Need more?

there shouldnt be competition when it comes to healthcare…….when one has a nail in their throat they do not have time to read the benefits of going with one doctor as to another. that would eliminate that little problem where doctors can turn away anybody that doesnt have insurance.

Emmmm, Government already controls lots of healthcare.
Big Industry has paid off most of the bodies protecting us from them (USDA, FDA, AMA……..)
It’s like this at the moment.
Big Industry gives money to Big Government. Big Government makes sure to protect Big Industries profit.
Do you really want to give your healthcare into the hands of Big Government? They will abuse it for their own profit!

My medical care is provided by the VA. I’m told its the best medical care available. Also, I’m told by a doctor buddy that I would have to pay about $600 a month for that coverage with any HMO. Those 6 years I served so long ago have benefited me hugely.

I would be concerned about the 18 million plus illegal immigrants in this country recieving free health care from hard working Americans tax money. It could never work.

less government control is a must- also less taxes-
i also think health care needs to be made available for everyone- like it is in Canada!

We need a health care system like Germany has…makes a lot more sense than continuing to pay big bucks to hospitals and doctors.

The single highest cost of our current health care system relates to administrative costs.
Beyond that, it is a human right to have health care. We need all US citizens to have basic access to preventative care.
