The USA is 50TH IN LIFE EXPTANCY!
The USA is 37TH IN HEALTH CARE!
These are NOT my idea of the best!
The current health care system is going to finish killing our economy UNLESS WE FIX IT!
FURST OF ALL, THERE WILL BE NO NATIONALIZATION OF HEALTH CARE
THE ONLY THING THE GOVERNMENT WANTS TO DO IS ADD AN OPTION FOR NON-PROFIT INSURANCE FOR THE POOR & UNEMPLOYED.
[I go to the Dallas VA Medical Center and the government doesn’t even run THAT!]
HOW WILL THEY PAY FOR IT?
    >DRUG DISCOUNTS
    >CONCENTRATING ON PREVENTATIVE CARE
[Currently, the poor only have the E.R. at county hospitals and that’s THE MOST EXPENSIVE CARE THERE IS!]
    >ELIMINATING WASTE &
    >LOCKING UP PEOPLE WHO COMMIT FRAUD!
WANNA KNOW WHO DOESN’T WANT CHANGE?
    THE INSURANCE COMPANIES
THEY EAT 40% OF EVERY HEALTH CARE DOLLAR.
FOR WHAT WE PAY NOW, WE COULD INSURE EVERY MAN, WOMAN & CHILD IN AMERICA WITH NO DEDUCTIBLE, NO COPAY COVERAGE.

Whoa! Wait just one minute there. Universities are not “Government Run Organizations”. Where did you ever get that Idea? Universities are private institutions, while many do accept a certain level of subsidies from the Government they are by no means “Government Run”. The Federal Government has no Constitutional right to “Run” universities.
Great medical breakthroughs have been made by Universities but the research is funded by private companies and endowments.
The private sector of America is responsible for every important discovery and invention from the light bulb to the personal computer.

You, obviously, don’t know how medical research goes. Most is not funded nor researched by medical companies. Large companies go out and look for innovations from individual doctors and research facilities and buy the technology outright, or give the inventor a slice of any profits. Very few of the investigative research monies come from the companies themselves.

  4. michelob said on Thursday, October 1, 2009, 17:31

Not all innovations come from the US, we just hear about them here in the US and not about any others.
Don’t know about now but it used to be that corps would fund medical research then take over the rights to new drugs and profit off them – schools did the work, corps took the profits. Maybe the funding justified it, I don’t know.
We could all earn enough money to buy our own health care, but a lot of us would literally die trying.
What happened to the nation where anything is possible, where we could solve any problem? It appears that as long as me myself and I have good health insurance the rest of the country can go scratch and THAT is the New American Way. Pretty embarrassing, yes?

I think you are pulling my plonker!!!
Try doing some research into the British National Health Service which, for all its faults, has the overwhelming support of the majority of people from all political persuasions, apart from a tiny minority of right wing nutters.

    Leo: Nothing is free.
Once national insurance is added in, effective marginal rates will climb from 31.5% to 41.5% through to 61.5% on those earning just over £100,000 ($147,000), thanks to the withdrawal of the personal tax allowance. After that, the rate will fall back to 41.5%, before rising again to 51.5% on incomes over £150,000.

Well, I wouldn’t go that far but if you’re rich you can afford better health care in the US than in a lot of other countries.
Actually, not everyone has this ‘consensus’. The UK leads the world in heart surgery.

Seldon you could sell a dead horse as a champion but congress can’t do diddly which leads to their approval rating. Based on the performance of Reid and Polosie. That is all anything is based on what they want for they are ahold of the strings at a PUPPET SHOW.

The United States ranks 37th on the WHO ranking of healthcare systems:http://www.photius.com/rankings/healthra…
So…no. Even if they are way off, bumping them up the list 10 spots…still means it sucks.

  11. Slightly Dark Francis said on Friday, October 2, 2009, 4:24

    FREE?
    What a jole!
I actually read idiots on here saying that something was free…
    sorry it is not!
    Malto has better health care?
We had better pass a 1000 + pages legislation before it is read to solve the problems.
    Yikes.

  12. Eco Doc said on Friday, October 2, 2009, 6:43

    Actually no!
We are 29th in infant mortality and morbidity even though we have more neonatologist than any country in the world.
I agree the monied can buy the best health-care while the poor get nothing!

BUDDY, YOU PITCHED IT! NEVER MIND!
SHELDON, THE NATIONS YOU MENTIONED HAD SMALLER POPULATIONS. SECONDLY, THEY ALL HAVE LOWER CANCER SURVIVAL RATES

  14. Albert The Capitalist said on Friday, October 2, 2009, 13:09

Of course. Ask anyone with a serious illness. If they had a choice of going to Cuba, or Canada or staying in the U.S. for treatment, no charge anywhere. Where would they choose?

  15. me said on Friday, October 2, 2009, 18:20

Well off people in the US certainly get good service.
What sort of community is one where people with cancer are recommended [on this board] to pay for cancer treatment with bake sales and appeals to charity?

  16. thinking said on Saturday, October 3, 2009, 0:23

all medical innovations do not come from the US, But we have the money and the schools to train people in new procedures.

  17. Anonymous said on Saturday, October 3, 2009, 6:42

Yes………..the US has the best healthcare, if you can afford it.

  20. AA-Star Trek Lover said on Saturday, October 3, 2009, 17:43

Yes. Healthcare in the USA is great. If you can get it.
I am always amazed how many Americans seem not to be aware about the issues with healthcare relying on FOX and other sources to spread misinformation about the healthcare system of the USA and those abroad.
First of all, Obama wants to make insurance more available to all and change the system so that it is cheaper. He also wants change so that the insurance companies find it harder to get out of paying for treatment. The system he is proposing looks similar to that which works in Holland and Switzerland where private companies are involved in providing insurance.
Second, of course universal health-cover sucks. That is why we in Western Europe have it. We think, hmm, our healthcare system sucks. I know, lets keep it. I guess that is the same with Japan and Canada as well.
Third, Obama campaigned on reforming the healthcare system. He said he wanted to make insurance more available and he was elected by the American people to do this.
FACT – the US has higher death rates for kids both for kids aged under one and those under five than western European countries with universal health coverage.
FACT – American insurance companies push up prices and work to stop paying out claims on those they cover.
FACT – the USA spends more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet.
That means that a dead American four year old would have had a better chance of life if they were born in Canada, France, Cuba, Germany, Japan etc, all of which have universal health coverage.
Last of all if you do not like the policies that Obama was elected to bring in, he can always be voted out of office in 2012.

This is true. Welcome to capitalism. Glad you could make it.
Cutting edge technology today will be commonplace to poorer people in the future.
You have to start somewhere, why not stop complaining and get enough money to pay for your health care… or is your health of no importance to you?
