Hi all, I’m in my third undergraduate year, planning to be a doctor. I just want to know if the money paid to the Medical Malpractise Insurance is annually or just one life-time payment. I have seen from some resources that internal medicine doctors pay around 25000 $. If that figure is annually, that can really affect the income. Thank you all!

Doctors pay malpractice insurance like any other form of insurance, usually a quarterly payment. However, the premiums are usually quoted in annual figures, so that $25,000 amount is likely per year. Some doctors pay over $100,000 a year in malpractice premiums, it’s really quite amazing.
The tendency of Americans to sue has led to extremely high malpractice premiums which in turn leads to extremely high health care costs, which in turn leads to extremely high health insurance premiums. In short, the rising cost of health care is in part, our own fault.
