My mother suffers from arthritis due to an injury that happened when she was training to be a nurse. About a year ago she had a rhematoid arthritis blood test which came back negative and our doctor said she doesn’t suffer from arthritis and it’s just “wear and tear”. However, she’s now significantly worse and has seen our doctor again who simply dismisses it and doesn’t even prescribe painkillers.
Does anyone know how to register for a new NHS doctor because we’ve tried nearly all the ones in Staffordshire where we live and they’ve all said either go private or go to your local one as you’re not in the catchment area to apply for others unless you move house. Any help?!

You do not have to stay at your doctors if you do not like them. If you have trouble finding a doctor, your local Health Authority has a duty to find one for you, even if you’ve been rejected by several doctors.
I recently moved from a rubbish doctor to a doctor who said their books were full, but they took me on as my partner was already registered there and they like to have whole families at the same practice. So maybe your mum could change to your doctor if yours a different one.
If you want to find a good doctor ask your friends/neighbours if they would recommend theirs or not.
Edit: found a webpage that might help you:http://www.bbc.co.uk/health/ask_the_doct…
Hope you work things out, your mum deserves the best. Don’t forget, in the meantime, it it your mum’s right to ask the doctor to refer her for a second opinion if she is not happy with their diagnosis. They have to do this if requested. Good luck

I don’t live in your area, so can’t advise on local issues.
However, I do work for an Arthritis Care charity, and your mother should be able to receive the treatment she feels she needs.
Contact your local area health authority, and see if they’ll help.
Don’t take NO for an answer.

In the USA, doctors who are employed by an HMO or the government are paid by their employers. Private doctors are paid by their patients. Guess who gets a bonus at year end for not testing or treating patients and thereby saving their employers money.

you can change doctors any time or any reason you want but as for the arthritis there probably isn’t much they can do.
