Just another socialist idea. It is well know that this plan of overhauling the health care system will not only drastically alter the way the American economy works – but there is NO WAY to pay for it other than taking money from those that have and simply giving it to those that HAVE NOT. This is Obama’s plan in a nutshell – his “redistribution of income” philosophy.
The only way to pay for this plan which will add upwards of $2 Trillion to the national deficit is to tax you and me to death – everything we do, buy, think or want to achieve will be taxed – the Obama government will only go after the taxpayers because we are the ones with the money – we are the ones that produce the money.
The nationalized health care plan is also a big payback program for those who helped elect Obama – especially GE – who is set to get the anticipated multi billion dollar contract for the new national medical records system – which Obama probably already verbally promised them IF he could push through his power grabbing plan GE of course also owns NBC, MSNBC and CNBC – whom Obama loves and they of course love Obama.
Remember, Obama wants the American public to only make a certain amount of money – this is why he has appointed “compensation czars” – who will be sure private citizens do not make above a certain amount of money – and if you do they will severely tax you – sounds like something you would only read in Russia or Cuba or Venezuela – but now – America. o_O

UHC doesn’t work well in most of the countries….it’s inadequate, untimely and those countries are smaller populations. Why do so many Canadians cross the border to get better and faster healthcare here. All the border hospitals are packed with them because if they waited they could die before getting proper treatment.
So here we have a much larger population and there would be fewer doctors and medical personel, if they happen to pass it. The HMO’s have already made it difficult and make decisions on what prices they can charge. Grant it that prices are often out of control, but gov taking control is not the answer. There has to be some kind of reform that can be a buffer without UHC.
We went for years without med insurance and right now my daughter doesn’t have it and I still don’t believe in UHC.

I haven’t seen a Dr. in 10 years for lack of insurance, despite the extreme need. I have a 5 year old daughter and if anyone needs a Dr. it will be her before me any day no matter the situation.
That said, I think that SOMETHING has to give, whether it be the gov. the liberals, the conservatives, the industry. I don’t care who. It IS needed in my opinion because it is just simply out of reach for many americans no matter what. Those that have expendable money that say they earned it and it is up to them to decide how to spend it, sure it is. it’s also up to me to decide how to spend the money I make with the 3 jobs I work but food and other necessities come first. health care comes dead last. I guess (Bev B thinks) that makes me lazy and poor and undeserving of comfort and peace of mind.
Universal Health Care will never be perfect by any sense of the word but I believe it will shine gobs brighter than the private sector plans. I would even go for a reform to make the private companies more accessible. it doesnt matter HOW we do it, just that the end results are the same, allow EVERYONE to be insured, not just the well off.

my answer is yes and no.
we definitely all should have affordable health care access. health insurance is one tool in order to make health care affordable by transfering risk and costs. the problem with health insurance is if you private pay then it is like a mortgage payment. i am uninsured now because my last employer wasn’t a company covered by COBRA.
now, COBRA would still be out of reach with unemployment. But, because i would have to have private pay rates for insurance, the premium is double so i couldn’t afford it. The private pay is almost $700 per month. that is out of the question. i haven’t been taking my medications etc due to the costs. i’ve had to postpone follow up visits for my health care. it’s pretty scary.
now, if the government said hey blue cross/united/etc., you are going out of business, the government and the people would have to go back to paying out of pocket. obviously, this would be very costly. the thing is though health insurance is a force that inflates health care costs because through coding, doctors can order extra services and get reimbursed. where as, if there was no insurance (health insurance has been around probably since the 1930s) then the ability to pay for services would be reduced. therefore, doctors would have to charge less. this fee reduction would make health care more affordable.
if they were to make a national catastrophic and prevented care plan outside of insurance then that may make sense.

It is NOT needed. Reform is needed, but the issues we have are mostly a result of over regulation, meddling by the government, and the inability of courts to put a stop to frivolous, outrageous settlements. What the government wants to do is control people. UHC is an excellent way to do that. And a poor constituency is easily controlled. No one is bothering to think clearly as to how much it will cost us ALL.

not a well thought out plan . even if barry hadn;t blown all the money he did it would put a strain on the treasury.
but you are talking oranges and apples. Our country isn:t stable now. The government is taking over our industries. thus lost jobs so they won;t be able to pay for their insurance and our country is too broke for the cost of the plan barry has which will cost too much and will only cover about a third of the people. Maybe it works in a stable country but we are not. Before we can start on something this costly we should get money back in the treasury.

universal can work in sweden or japan where the people are alike and trust each other. in the usa we are part first world working together to make a better country but part third world dragging an angry growing population that can’t or won’t pull their own weight. middleclass america just can’t take on that burden.

I am not willing to pay for anyone other than my own families needs. Sorry but the poor, the lazy, and all of their friends are not my problem. I work for what I have and I aim to keep it. Obama’s American dream levels the playing field making us all poor, my American dream is that I become richer than anyone I know and share it as I see fit.

I would like some health care reform. I don’t think we should do it this very second. It’s like rearranging deck chairs on the titanic. We have to get out of debt and this isn’t on obama’s list of things to do..he’s digging us in deeper.

Medical care is available to those that don’t have because I have taken 4 people to my Local Free Clinic and it is so. And I am not taking shleps but specialists.

It would be nice to have better and more readily available care, that is for sure.
I doubt any human government will be able to implement a permanently successful plan.

It’s needed, especially by the paranoid schizophrenics who loiter in the politics section of Y!A.

  13. William F said on Saturday, October 3, 2009, 0:14

    Not Needed.
If the government stopped taking so much of our money through taxes, maybe people could afford health care.
