In addition to community clinics, there are federally funded healthcare centers that can provide healthcare to people at low cost (depending on income). Some resources that I found to locate such centers are http://findahealthcenter.hrsa.gov/ and http://www.needymeds.org/
Sometimes those types of clinics can be very busy. I’ve heard of several private clinics that will treat people without insurance. Some of these clinics keep costs low by not dealing with insurance companies at all. A basic office visit will range in price from $30-$60. (If you have insurance and use one of these clinics, you can still file your own claim)

If the U.S. Congress doesn’t put single-payer healthcare insurance back on the table, only the wealthy and those with top jobs can have that kind of insurance.
With this crashing economy, the corrupt health insurance companies just want healthy young people as clients, they want to drop the unemployed, elderly or people with any health problems.
Those healthcare insurance gangsters have paid off the members of the U.S. Congress, even the White House, and the politicians are afraid to go against the big insurance powerhouses. We are talking about trillions of dollars and at least one-third goes into the the private health insurance people.
They are running thousands of ads and calling people to try and scare them away from single-payer insurance. Single-payer means they will have to compete by submitting bids. It would be cheaper and simplier with single-payer insurance, but the politicians and insurance execs are fighting single-payer. Those insurance fat cats are enemies of the people.

You can go anywhere you can afford to pay for up front. An urgent care clinic can cost anywhere from $60-$200 per visit, which is much better than an $1200 ER visit. If you have absolutely no money to pay up front, you’re kind of screwed… I found this out first hand when I was uninsured and had strep. My husband was between jobs, I hadn’t worked for a couple months because I had a newborn, and we had maybe $15 in the bank. I ended up borrowing money from my Mom.

this very problem is why the US will be a third world country in ten years…..80 million or more uninsured, obese, poor health baby boomers whom fought against universal health care coverage….they’re going to pay for that decision with their lives….
