That is a Common misconception about health care. Your really paying for health insurance that everyone can afford. Most people believe America has the best health care in the world. If that is the case why are we rated 36th in Life Expectancy, we even have a higher child mortality rate than then most country. If you get right down to every time you do go to the hospital you are paying for they people they treated that couldn’t pay anyway. Federal law ensures public access to emergency services regardless of ability to pay. In all, government spending accounted for 45.1% of total health spending in the U.S. in 2005. Either way your going to have to pay for it.

if you have private insurance you already are paying for other peoples medical treatment.
If you don’t have private insurance, all of those with it are paying extra in case you are one of the many uninsured that will not pay the hospital bills.
so really, we almost already have universal health care, but we are not all paying for it.

If you get cancer and your insurance company cancels you, why should I pay for your health care?
Or do you really believe that you will never find yourself in a position of losing your private coverage or having an insurance company deny coverage?
You must be young. In a way it would be interesting to see health care reform fail just so we can get a chance to see how loud neocons scream when they have to declare bankruptcy because of medical expenses. Or how much you will complain when you lose a job and no insurance company will cover you at any price.

You shouldn’t. Simply asserting “compassion” as the reason doesn’t cut it- you shouldn’t have to pay for anyone’s healthcare but your own. There is no logical reason why you should be forced to pay for a stranger’s mistake.
The idea of universal healthcare is used by some to feel morally superior to everyone else by helping the poor by proxy- tell the government to do it, and then tax the rich to pay for it. Oh, I’m such a good person! I overflow with compassion!

For the same reason that if YOU take relatively good care of yourself, eat right, exercise, and avoid cigarettes and alcohol – and you still end up needing a heart transplant – or your get run over by a train -, other taxpayers should pay for YOUR medical care.
It’s called being part of a compassionate society.

Because maybe you’ll get run over by the drunken smoking driver and have a catastrophic injury that will exceed your medical insurance, and the deductibles will bankrupt you before you get out of the hospital any you will have no money to pay for the home health services you will require.

AND HOW WOULD YOU KNOW IF THEY GOT THEIR CONDITION DUE TO THAT? MANY PPL HAVE LUNG CANCER WHO NEVER SMOKED A DAY IN THEIR LIFE. ARE THERE ANY CONDITIONS THAT ARE DIRECTLY RELATED TO ONE’S HABITS AND NO OTHER FACTORS? AS A SOCIETY wE SHOULD HELP EACH OTHER OUT,. WHY ARE PPL SO SELFISH

Why? Because coverage for prevention measures is a big part of the proposed healthcare package which in the long run will save tax payers a lot of money. Programs to help people stop smoking or drinking, for example.

    And overeats.
Obesity and smoking are the top two causes of preventable death. And since broke people who don’t have insurance seem to be the ones smoking and overeating the most, we have a major problem.

Or the drug addicts and illegal aliens. Don’t worry 0bama will make people have no accountability, responsibility or legality and you the hard working taxpayer can pay for ALL of it.

Only an American would come up with something like that.
We live in the society, there will always be people who take things for granted.
Don’t complain, in the end children and others will benefit too.

Because the majority has spoken, they voted for His Majesty the King. The King says that we must finance those who choose not to educate themselves or try to get good jobs, we must keep them healthy so they can vote.
