With the army – at one point you are fighting for YOUR life.
In the medical profession, you are fighting for THEIR lives.
Would you, as a patient, want a nurse that has been forced to do this job?
Not everyone CAN be a nurse – so not everyone should be.
While a draft sounds like “the” idea to prevent worker shortage – i do not think that this will be a real solution.
Maybe it`s time to look why there are not enough people to do that kind of work. There should be the solution, methinks.

I think conscriptory service is a great idea.
I do not think that the military or the medical field is for everyone, however if we had a system that would let people choose a civic service job to work at for 2 years it would greatly improve America.
In my time in the Army I saw a lot of “turds” who joined up because they had nothing going on for them. Drains on society, if you will. After a few months of pain realizing it would not be the free ride they thought it might have been they began to become productive members of our team.
Im sure that when some of them go back to the real world they will be much better of because of the sometimes unpleasant, but but very structuring time in the military.
    How about a choice between
    Military
    Public health care
    Public sanitation
or something like Americorp, building and improving homes for low income residents.

Health care is not a right. Where do people get this stuff?! If you can afford it, or if you even want it at all, is up to you. Healthcare is a choice.
