How Much Do Private Practice Doctors Make?

I would assume that they make more than the average doctor working for a hospital. Why wouldn’t all doctors form their own private practice?

It depends on what field of medicine you practice. For the most part, most doctors work for hospitals under a contract made with their own private practice. However, there are some doctors that are directly employed by the hospital. They are usualy paid a salary and their income is not dependent on the number of patients they see. The advantage of this is that they don’t have the overhead of paying for a private practice (staff, lease on office space, billing, etc.) There is also a difference between doctors who work in private practice versus academic medicine. There is a huge difference between those two areas as well.
