How Many People Has The American Medical Assoc. Blocked Getting Health Care?

Good question for which a quantitative answer is not feasible. The American Medical Association exerts a great deal of political influence on the legislation and regulation of health care. We take for granted that its efforts are intended for the well-being of patients. Usually, that assumption is probably safe. Yet it represents the interests of doctors (and possibly insurers). Without having studied all of its lobbying efforts (a complete study being impossible anyway since much lobbying is done in secret), I don’t doubt that its efforts have, at times, had the effect of raising the incomes of doctors and insurers to the detriment of patients.
I’m afraid that I don’t have hard data or even evidence to suggest that the AMA has blocked *anyone’s* health care. I am only dealing with incentives that are easily observed. I am relying upon the well-known extent of Congressional lobbying by special interests. Given all of this, it is easy to surmise whose interests are served by Congress and why, for many, health care is beyond reach.

You always have a right to die in the streets without medical coverage.
But the fact is the taxpayer pays billions to cover emergency room treatment for uninsured people which cause WAY more than normal Dr. visits would.
Expanding coverage will save money in the long run – LOT’S of it.
