I need to tell a doctor about something, i already have an appointment for stress but i need to let them know i self harm too.
I am 13 so i need my mum to come with me.
How can i ask the doctor if i can talk to him in private without my mum suspecting me?
And also i cover up my scars with a wristband, if the doctor sees it will he ask me to remove it in front of her unaware i self harm?
And if he does what excuse can i use to get my mum out of the room?
Thanks.

I am sure you can tell your mum. Don’t be scared of her reaction. She may react by being very sympathetic or she could get angry. But she’s not angry at you darling, she’s angry at herself for not detecting it earlier. She is not angry at you if she yells or seems mean, she is merely beating herself up for not realising that you were unhappy or complaining to the world that how could her child feel this way.
All she will want is for you to get better.
At first you can ask her to stay in the waiting area. However, I think it is best to tell her. If you don’t I’m sure if she found out she would immediately say “why didn’t you tell me?”

I asume that since you refer to your mother as my mum, that you are probably British or maybe Austrailian. No matter. In the U.S. , a person the age of thirteen is considered as a minor. Their parents’ generally have a right to be present when they are seen by a doctor. There is no real way to request to talk to the doctor without your parents being aware of you doing so, however doctors in the U.S. are bound to a medical oath that says the doctor and patient consultations are confidential. There are exceptions to this, but they are complicated to explain.I would like to say however, self mutilation is a serious problem and this is something that needs to be addressed, the sooner, the better.Life is too short and too sweet to let it pass you by. You don’t need to harm yourself. It’s silly.Reach out and get help now, believe me you won’t regret it.

I’m sure you have a reason for not wanting to tell your mom. I was the same way. I had planned to never tell her, and I knew that she would never find out. Well, she found out from my best friend, and to this day I wish that I would have told her myself. I thought she would throw me out of the house, but she actually started crying and since then a lot of the problems we were having have solved themselves and we have had more open conversations.
The doctor may have to tell her anyways because of your age.

Just ask your mom not to come back into the room with you. Tell her you would feel more comfortable talking to the doctor alone. You are old enough not to need her back there with you. The doctor is going to encourage you to tell your mother anyway though. He can’t really treat you or get you help without her knowing.

With the two of them together would be the best time. Don’t hide it from your mom.
if not call your doctor and explain to him over the phone before you go see him.

You have to tell your Mom that you would like to speak to the doctor alone.
