Several reasons why you would want to. Less paper used and records can be accessed by other facilities and/or providers that are affiliated within the organization. A disadvantage is the whole HIPPA issue (which is a method of protecting a patient’s health information/privacy). Most anyone with computer access can gain access to your medical records. There have been many instances of people looking at health records when they shouldn’t…largely because they know the person and are curious as to what they might find.

They have just located a few Medical Files from two local Hospital in what was a landfill dump. Seems the Patients are still alive so now we are facing into litigation. Good enough reason to store personal information electronically! Best of Luck
