John Stossel has a nice piece that illustrates how the free market could bring the costs down if employers just paid for major medical insurance and employees paid their own bills when they went for office visits and minor procedures. If we had some tort reform (something mysteriously lacking from the national health care proposals), there would be little need for any form of state funded health plans.
