We have some of the countries highest county tax to pay for medical care for those that truly need it. I was wondering if other state and county governments have similar programs. And do you think these programs and taxes for them will be repealed if health care reform passes in the congress?

Every state has a publicly funded healthcare system. Unfortunately they’re all going broke because of the spiraling costs of health care. John Stossel has a nice piece that illustrates how the free market could bring the costs down if employers just paid for major medical insurance and employees paid their own bills when they went for office visits and minor procedures. If we had some tort reform (something mysteriously lacking from the national health care proposals), there would be little need for any form of state funded health plans.

We have a state-run health department in my county, as well as a state-run socialized health care called TennCare (in Tennessee). It has been a disaster as will it be if it’s done on a national scale.

ALL public hospitals, by law, cannot turn anyone away due to inability to pay. If you are in need of emergency assistance, or are ill, you get treated.

We have a state plan for those that aren’t eligible for SCHIP or Medicaid. As for repealing taxes, LMAO. Government only seems to add taxes.

Health care is never free. Someone has to pay for it.
