Cancer – A very painful and deadly disease!

The term ‘cancer’ is used to describe a disease in which the normal cells in the body tend to multiply uncontrollably, with the involvement of some other tissues. These cancerous cells can spread to any part f the body through the lymph and blood system. The substance that mainly causes cancer is called ‘carcinogen’. Generally when the wild cells in the body multiply, they develop into a tumor, which is sometimes limited to only one specific part of the body and at times is hostile.

Researches and studies have led to the fact that there are over 200 different kinds of cancers. Each one of them is named according to the organ or tissue in which it develops. Leukemia is the cancer of the white blood cells in the body and melanoma is the cancer that begins in the melanocytes. Apart from these, a few other kinds of cancer are lung cancer, rectal and colon cancer, bladder cancer, breast cancer, kidney cancer, endometrial cancer, non – Hodgkin lymphoma pancreatic cancer, skin cancer, prostate cancer, bile duct cancer, appendix cancer, adrenocortical carcinoma, cervical cancer, eye cancer, gall bladder cancer, childhood cancer, lip and oral cancer, mouth cancer, liver cancer, urethral cancer and vaginal cancer.

The causes of the different types of cancer are varied. Each one of them is due to a different cause. Like for instance, smoking can be the chief cause of lung cancer and family history can be the one of some other kind of cancer. There are several treatments for cancer like chemotherapy, radiation therapy and some prescribed drugs. One must look out for preventive measures of cancer and get oneself checked regularly.
