I know this because I am Canadian. Doctors are forbidden from taking money!
Except for cosmetic surgery, everyone has to wait in line for the same poor gov service.
Canada takes away the basic human freedom to pay for and/or provide a professional service.

Yes I knew that, which is why some Canadians come to the United States for treatment. They prefer living to dying, or they prefer no pain to pain.
Imagine that! People making individual choices based on what they think is best for them, aka freedom. Who in the hell could possibly want that!?
Fancy That said on Sunday, September 27, 2009, 1:02
interesting, because I posted a question on Canadian medical service and every Canadian said they were quite happy. Yes, they had some issues, but over all wouldn’t trade it for the US system.
Are you SURE you are a Canadian? And even if you are, don’t you think a doctor’s right to accept private money pales in comparison to 55 million Americans having the right to access a doctor without losing their homes and life savings? Lots of babies are dying in the US because of insurance companies. How does that stack up on your list of piorities.

i always thought canada like the uk had a national health where everyone gets free health care. You pay national insurance contributions that comes off your wages and no mater how long you’ve worked or if your unemployed. You still get it for free,, this is a good thing and no scumbag insurance slime ball deigning you health care because you took out the wrong insurance package.
Plus those who need long term medicine in the uk. Only if you work do you pay for all those pills and potions and if its only a few pills, its about £7 per prescription and if it’s hundreds of mixed pills, it’s still only around £7 other wise it’s free and they maybe moving to make even this free for all.
the UK like the US are too rich to be forcing it’s people to pay huge amounts of money for operations… you can still go private and skip the heath care waiting cues if your rich enough and many do..

The Canadian Supreme Court agrees with you and disagrees with Case and with Fancy That.
The Canadian Supreme Court held that, given the sometimes life-threatening waiting times for certain medical treatments in Canada, it is a VIOLATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS to deny an individual the option of private health care, which Canada does.
Here is a quote from the Court itself, ruling in a case of a man being prosecuted for seeking private health care on a “fee-for-service” basis:
“The evidence in this case shows that delays in the public health care system are widespread, and that, in some serious cases, PATIENTS DIE AS A RESULT OF WAITING LISTS FOR PUBLIC HEALTH CARE. The evidence also demonstrates that the prohibition against private health insurance and its consequence of denying people vital health care result in physical and psychological suffering that meets a threshold test of seriousness.
“Where lack of timely health care can result in death, the [Section 7] protection of life is engaged; where it can result in serious psychological and physical suffering, the [Section 7] protection of security of the person is triggered. In this case, the government has prohibited private health insurance that would permit ordinary (Canadian citizens) to access private health care while failing to deliver health care in a reasonable manner, thereby increasing the risk of complications and death. In so doing, it has interfered with the interests protected by [Section 7] of the Canadian Charter.” (Emphasis added.)
Note that the reference to the “Canadian Charter” is a shorthand reference to the “Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms,” which is essentially Canada’s version of the bill of rights. Canada’s own Supreme Court has held that its “free” health care system violates the Canadian Charter rights of its own citizens.
Please read the entire case and then decide whether you can hold Canada’s health care system up as a model for the U.S. Your life may someday depend on it.

Some aspects of Canadian health care are privatized, and I think the health care is a two-tier type system.
btw the service is not poor. Basic human freedom? where’s the “basic human freedom” in the US to have appropriate medical treatment for preventative care when you cant afford it, and get so sick, you’re rushed to the ER later with a bad prognosis?

I’m not saying that you are lying, but you do know that Canadians call it universal health care, not socialized medicine, right? And health care is provincially run and funded. And Alberta does have a 2-tier system, so obviously, the Canada Health Act does not prohibit it.

Don’t they have private doctors over there? I am sure everyone is not under the gov service. I am sorry to hear that at least in the UK you have a choice. I think the Canadian gov is old fashioned and they need to get up to date.
All countries is not like US.

That’s funny. All my relatives in Canada say you’re wrong about this. They also say they are very happy with their health care.
What part of Canada do you live in?

Not only that just last winter a woman had to go from upper Vancouver Island BC Canada to Seattle area hospital to have her baby because of bed shortage.
And many go south for elective surgery or wait for months to years depending on what it is.

Canada has taken a fundamental human right away from its citizens. No government should be allowed to violate individual freedom of choice. To be human is to have choice!

In our Constitution we have the provisions against such intrusions of the government into our private affairs, but our newly elected leader Hussein does not care about the Constitution which he was sworn to defend.

I didn’t know that but I’ve heard the government rejects certain procedures and medications that are needed……

That would be why so many cross the border for elective care.
